JPD investigating overnight vehicle theft used in two commercial burglaries

Around 10:50 pm, police were notified of a stolen Honda SUV from the Race Street Market, located at 3509 Race St. The victim advised police that he left a vehicle running outside the store while he went inside to buy tobacco. When the clerk asked to see his ID, he exited the store to retrieve his identification, he then saw the gray SUV leaving the lot.

At 11:05 pm, police responded to a commercial burglary at Express Pawn located at 3205 E. Nettleton Ave. Officers determined that the stolen gray SUV was used to gain entrance into the store; the suspects backed the SUV into the front of the store, causing a large hole. Video footage showed two men exit the vehicle and enter the store. Several long rifles were taken by the suspects and they left the store in the stolen vehicle.

At 11:29 pm, while officers were working the previous two scenes, dispatch was notified of a second commercial burglary at Jim’s Pawn Shop located at 3711 E. Highland Drive. The surveillance footage from Jim’s Pawn Shop showed the suspects backed the SUV into the building twice. The two suspects exited the vehicle and entered the store. They exited the building, got into the vehicle and drove northbound on Cain Street. An officer located the stolen vehicle in the rear of the building that appeared to have driven through the rear gate and attempted to go through a second fence. The vehicle was unoccupied.
