Mission

As members of the City of Jonesboro Police Department, we strive to set a standard of excellence for others to follow. In keeping with this goal, we have developed a mission statement that reflects the fundamental principles of the organization and the cornerstone of our law enforcement philosophy:

“The City of Jonesboro Police Department shall strive to ensure that all of our citizens are served in a professional, ethical and equitable manner that respects individuals, protects our democratic ideals and system of government, pursues greater accountability of police, greater public share in decision making and greater concern for civil rights and liberties.”

It is the intent of this administration to provide every employee of the Jonesboro Police Department as much guidance and direction as possible in order to meet this standard of excellence.

Serving an average of over 80,000 citizens, JPD employs 169 Sworn Officers and covers over 88 square miles including residential, commercial, and rural areas.

Our
Department

The Jonesboro Police Department is currently under the direction of a Chief of Police and Assistant Chief of Police and is divided into four main sections, each headed by a Captain. The divisions include: Administration, Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Special Services.

The Jonesboro Police Department is led by Chief Rick Elliott. The department serves a city of approximately eighty thousand, plus many more school-year temporary residents who come to attend Arkansas State University, as well as many daily visitors who come to work or shop.

The Department has 175 sworn officer positions and 33 full and part time civilian support employees.

Administration

The administrative office of the Jonesboro Police Department includes the Office of the Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief of Police, an Administrative Captain, Public Information Specialist, Community Outreach and Recruiting Officer, Chief’s Administrative Assistant, and Video Analysis and Digital Media Officer. Administration also provides daily support for the rest of the department with services such as social media, planning and research, fiscal affairs, crime analysis, records maintenance, and supply and fleet operations.
 

Criminal Investigation

The Criminal Investigation Division is tasked with the investigation of all types of crimes, polygraph services, property and evidence storage, crime scene investigation, and the high-tech/cyber crimes unit. The CID Captain oversees a variety of investigations carried out by in-house detectives, the Street Crimes Unit, the Drug Task Force, the SWAT Team, and the Drone Program.

Patrol

The Uniform Patrol Division is frequently referred to as the “backbone of the police department.” Officers of this division are the most familiar to the general public because they are responsible for the 24/7 task of responding to calls for service, preventing criminal activity, conducting preliminary criminal investigations, apprehending criminals, and community interaction. The Patrol Division is also home to the Traffic Unit and Motorcycle Unit whose primary purposes are traffic enforcement and investigating motor vehicle accidents.
 

Special Operations

The Special Services Division consists of a number of various units who are under the direction of a Captain. This Division is responsible for deployment and monitoring of the activities of the Training Division, E911 Dispatch, Code Enforcement, School Resource Officer program, Mobile Field Force, Chaplains, Court Services Division, Warrant Unit, Reserve Officer program, Emergency Preparedness, and Honor Guard Unit.
